MORE INTENSE ACTIVITIES IN THE FIELD OF ILLEGAL MIGRATIONS ARE TO BE IMPLEMENTED

At today’s session, the Coordination body for monitoring movements of illegal migrants over the territory of the Republic of Srpska, consisting of the representatives of the relevant institutions and organisations of the Republic of Srpska, the situation in the field of illegal migrations was analysed, and it was concluded that the realization of the adopted conclusions of the Republic of Srpska Government and Coordination body will be continued.

At the session, chaired by the Republic of Srpska Police Director, Mr Siniša Kostrešević, one of the conclusions was also that, in accordance with the Agreement signed with the Border Police of BIH, the Republic of Srpska Police would continue to provide support to the Border Police of BIH in the protection of the eastern border from the entrance of illegal migrants.

Furthermore, the implementation of more intense activities in countering, preventing and detecting the criminal offence of ‘People smuggling’ was ordered, as wellas the increase of presence and activities of police officers in the field, especially on locations where illegal migrants move and gather the most.

Additionally, the police officers of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior will continue to undertake all the legally prescribed measures and activities in the field of protecting personal and property security of all citizens and maintaining the favourable security situation on the territory of the Republic of Srpska, while simultaneously following the principles of legality and humanity.

Within the first nine months of this year, on the territory of the Republic of Srpska, the police officers detected and recorded the total number of 709 persons – migrants, who illegally crossed the border of BIH, which is by 76.5% less compared to the same period of 2022.

Out of the total number of detected and controlled migrants, most of them come from Afghanistan (52.3%) and Morocco (12.3%).

According to the territory covered by police administrations, most migrants were detected on the territory of Zvornik PA (31.6%), Banja Luka PA (15.7%), Doboj PA (11.1%), Bijeljina PA (11.1%), Prijedor PA (8.7%), Foča PA (8.7%), Gradiška PA (8.6%), Istočno Sarajevo PA (2.6%), Trebinje PA (1.6%) and Mrkonjić Grad PA (0.3%).

During this period, eight reports were submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office of BIH based on eight committed criminal offences ‘People smuggling’ (Article 189 of BIH Criminal Code) against 11 persons who smuggled 65 migrants.

On the territory the Municipality of Čajniče, four migrants from Afghanistan caused fire in a stall, which burned down to the ground. These persons were arrested and the report was submitted on the criminal offence ‘Damaging and seizing other person’s property’ to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Trebinje.

Minor offences committed by migrants were not detected.
