RS MoI INCREASES ITS SECURITY MEASURES FOLLOWING THE TERRORIST ATTACK IN MOSCOW

| Banja Luka | Tuesday, 26/03/2024

The Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, said today that after the terrorist attack in Moscow, security measures on the territory of the Republic of Srpska have been increased, since they could encourage radical persons to commit incidents or cause fear and panic among the population.
According to his statement, the security situation in the Republic of Srpska is favourable and members RS MoI are undertaking a series of actions with the aim of preventing any untoward events that could endanger the security of the Republic of Srpska citizens.
"The presence of the police with long guns in public areas in Srpska has been increased, and particular emphasis is placed on the security of schools. Police presence in shopping centres and other places where a large number of citizens gather has also been increased. We will also enhance the security of all institutions. Also, the control of persons and vehicles has been strengthened, particularly in the transit areas between the Republic of Srpska and the FBiH cantons," said Minister Karan at the press conference.
He said that the police were particularly focused on the security of schools and students, and that additional plans for child protection would be activated.
"The holidays are coming, and at that time we will have special security measures. It is necessary for the Ministry of Interior to revise and analyse related to the service for the protection of persons and property at places of large gatherings. We are doing everything we can to provide quit and adequate reaction," Minister Karan pointed out.
He said that the police officers of SAU and other services were undergoing special training to be able to face all challenges.
"We assure the citizens that we are doing everything to maintain a favourable security situation. We have engaged special units that will monitor activities on the Internet," added the Minister of the Interior.
In addition, as he noted, the conflict between Israel and Palestine had also reflected on Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"We are only talking about the impact on Bosnia and Herzegovina. Certain individuals are trying to create tensions by speaking publicly, which could possibly lead to incidents. There is a particular risk of a new influx of migrants, which surely represents a security problem," said Minister Karan.
He added that the migration was under control, but that there was a threat of a new wave of migrants, and then as a transit country they could face a profound problem.
"There are also people who are radical and ready to act, so we will also pay attention to that when it comes to migrants. We have increased cooperation with international organizations. We are already exchanging and have exchanged information with the countries in the region," said Minister Karan.
He believes that the open conflict in Syria could also pose a potential threat to security, as well as the criminal prosecution of returnees from foreign battlefields who had minimal and suspended sentences.
