‘There was almost 700 criminal offences less in the Republic of Srpska during the last five-year period compared to the previous one. It is important to note that the total rate of solved criminal offences is higher than 91%, which is one of the best and most relevant indicators of the results of the Ministry’s work’, the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan said after the Extended staff meeting of the Minister of the Interior held today, in Zvornik.
According to him, this is a huge coefficient of solved cases, and there are some police administrations with no criminal offence unsolved in certain periods.
‘The most important thing is that almost all most serious criminal offences were solved during this period, or all of them, when it comes to the criminal offence ‘Murder’, Minister Karan said and noted that these were rather high parameters. He added that there was no system without criminal offences, and that the strength of the Ministry of the Interior was reflected through its capacity and capability.
‘When there is a lower number of criminal offences, it also indicates that the citizens help their police, especially when it comes to general crime, particularly regarding the criminal offences against property, where in the last five years we have almost a thousand criminal offences less’, Minister Karan said.
The Minister explained that the greatest problem of the Ministry was the lack of police officers, since about 1,900 police officers retired over the previous five years, but that the prospects were positive, because almost the same number of young police officers was employed.
The Republic of Srpska Police Director, Mr Siniša Kostrešević said that the Ministry of the Interior had been stricken by the death of their colleague the previous year, a police officer from Banja Luka PA, who died in a traffic accident while performing his professional duties and tasks.
He pointed out that the election campaign, the incident in Zovin Do, where an armed person had shot at the locals and police officers, providing support in situations such as fires and snow disasters that occurred recently were some of the events that marked the previous year.
Director Kostrešević said that the Police recorded the total number of 14 organised criminal groups, whereas the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior participated in the implementation of 14 criminal investigations, out of which 11 had international character.
He stated that, in 2024, the total number of 5,557 reports against 6,194 natural and legal persons was submitted, based on suspicion of committing the total number of 6,699 criminal offences. Also, he confirmed that the number of cases of peer violence during the reporting period was by 21.3% higher compared to the previous year.
Police Director said that the number of detected criminal offences of economic crime in 2024 was 584, which is by 9.4% more than in the previous year, whereas the number of implemented financial investigations was higher by 61.5%. ‘The material damage caused by the commission of criminal offences of economic crime is about BAM 305 million and the acquired illegal material gain is about BAM 334 million’, Director Kostrešević said.
