The High School of Internal Affairs was established in 1992, along with the establishment of the Republic of Srpska. Its main purpose was to educate and provide professional training of staff in order to perform duties of a police officer – technician for police affairs, through a regular four-year education.
The school was closed in 2001, after the promotion of the last VIII class of the High School of Internal Affairs. A total number of 1,139 police officers - security technicians was trained in less than ten years of existence within the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior.
The Republic of Srpska Government adopted the Decision on the establishment of the Public Institution of the High School of Internal Affairs at the 14th session on March 30, 2023. The reasons for establishing the school are the long-term solution regarding the issue of human resources within the Ministry of the Interior, continuation of the tradition of high school police education and enabling the continuation of police education at higher education institutions.
The Commission for determining the requirements for the establishment of the High School of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska previously found that the requirements for the establishment of the school were met since there was a need for a professional police officer – technician for police affairs. Furthermore, the means were provided for the establishment and operation of school, premises, equipment and teaching aids in accordance with the pedagogical standards and norms. In addition, the required number of teachers and professional associates was also provided, and requirements for conducting practical courses were met, as well as a gym and at least one outdoor playground. Enrolment of students in the 2023/24 school year in the High School of Internal Affairs will be defined by a public call, which will be announced by the institution itself.
Students who have completed the first two years of high school will be able to enrol in the High School of Internal Affairs, if students meet a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and display very good conduct, and if they are under the age of 18.
