The Republic of Srpska

Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Srpska, Mr. Dragan Lukač, met today with the OSCE representative on media freedom, Ms. Dunja Mijatović, in Banja Luka. During the meeting, Minister Lukač and OSCE representative, Ms. Mijatović, paid special attention to the work of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior on protecting journalists and media freedoms. In this sense, the situation in the Republic of Srpska was defined as satisfactory, and it was agreed that, although the raise in number of attacks on journalists was noticeable, in the Republic of Srpska those attacks were not frequent. Minister Lukač pointed out that the members of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior cooperated with media representatives on a daily basis and, as a result, information transparency and availability to media, and thus to the citizens of the Republic of Srpska, were on a high level. In addition, Minister Lukač said that journalists and other media representatives were protected, above all as citizens of the Republic of Srpska, and that, taking into account the nature of their work, in future, the necessary measures would be undertaken so they could do their job without being disturbed. Minister Lukač and OSCE representative, Dunja Mijatović, agreed that they would raise the cooperation level between them in future.
