The Republic of Srpska

On the occasion of upcoming holidays, the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior encourages citizens not to drink alcohol when participating in traffic and to adjust the vehicle speed to the conditions on the road. Until 1 December 2015, 18,403 drivers were excluded from traffic, and 13,852 of them were excluded as a result of driving under the influence of alcohol. The amount of alcohol of more than 2g/kg was found in 388 drivers, whereas the amount between 1g/kg and 2g/kg was found in 3,187 drivers. According to Article 170, paragraph 4 of the Law on minor offences, 4,236 drivers were arrested to be detained in order to get sober. During the same period, 1,045 traffic accidents were caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, as a result of crossing the speed limit, 3,811 drivers were punished with minor offence warrants and protection measure of prohibition of driving a vehicle. With the aim of increasing the security level of traffic in the Republic of Srpska, Ministry of the Interior is participating in the realization of the prevention campaign whose slogans are ‘Alcohol+wheel=fatal combination’ and ‘Happy New Year without victims’, which will last from 17 December 2015 until 16 January 2016.
