Today, on 22 February 2016, at ’Miloš Crnjanski’ Primary School in Banja Luka, the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior started a series of lectures that are going to be held at primary and secondary schools on the territory of the Republic of Srspka. The main aim of these lectures is prevention of juvenile delinquency. On this occasion, Minister of the Interior, Mr. Dragan Lukač, attended the lecture and said that lectures aim at pointing out real values every student should learn during their schooldays, as well as unacceptable behaviour students should avoid. ‘Children are present on social networks and the Internet, where they face various problems without their parents being aware of it. We would like children to know who they can turn to in order to report and solve this type of problems’, Minister Lukač said. Head of the Administration for Police Education, Mr. Mile Šikman, said that the lectures were going to warn the students about all dangers minors are exposed to, and also introduce them with the ways of protection. Furthermore, he stressed the necessity of education on IT technologies and added that development of these technologies had to be supported by adequate law regulation, and that, in many countries, there are laws recognizing criminal offences in cyber space. ‘One of our aims is also to affect potential perpetrators of criminal offences, so they know that the police is constantly present in the community and schools, and that they monitor all activities’, Mr. Šikman said. Director of ‘Miloš Crnjanski’ Primary School, Ms. Vesna Banjac, said that this school was very safe and that they always participated in lectures organized by the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior on various topics. There can never be too much knowledge, because children may know Facebook better than their parents do, but they do not know what kind of dangers they are exposed to on social networks’, Ms. Banjac said.   It is estimated that more than 20,000 students are going to participate in these lectures, which will contribute to lowering the rates of juvenile delinquency.
