695 DRIVERS EXCLUDED FROM TRAFFIC IN FOUR DAYS FOR DRINKING ALCOHOL

With the aim of improving the security situation in traffic on the territory of the Republic of Srpska, from 25th to 28th February 2016, the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior organized and implemented the activity at republic level ‘Increased control of traffic participants’ with the focus on determining the presence of alcohol, narcotic drugs or psychoactive medicines in the bodies of drivers. The total number of 701 drivers were excluded from traffic during this action; 695 of them were excluded for driving under the influence of alcohol; 4 drivers were excluded for driving under the influence of drugs or psychoactive medicines (3 of them were driving under the influence of cannabis and one under the influence of cocaine), and two drivers refused to undergo the control. In accordance with Article 170, paragraph 4 of the Law on minor offences of the Republic of Srpska, out of the total number of drivers excluded from traffic, 209 or 29.81% of drivers were arrested by being detained until becoming sober or completely recovered, not longer than 12 hours. The Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior is going to continue conducting increased controls of participants in traffic, and therefore, we appeal to all traffic participants to act responsibly and follow traffic regulations.
