Today, the Administration for Police Education of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior, in cooperation with the Institute for Physical Medicine ‘’Dr Miroslav Zotović’’, organized the workshop whose subject was ‘’Helping disabled people’’ for cadets of the Police Academy. Physical therapists of the Institute for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation ‘’ Dr Miroslav Zotovic’’ showed cadets how to properly treat disabled people. The Head of the Administration for Police Education, Mr. Mile Šikman said that the aim of those activities was to train cadets to help disabled people in a proper way. ‘’ We would like to stress problems that these individuals face in everyday life and the obstacles and barriers which they come across, and to show our future police officers how to properly handle wheelchairs’’,  Mr. Šikman said. A physical therapist at the Institute, Mr. Dragan Gajić said that cadets had the opportunity to see how to perform transfers, and to overcome obstacles which they may encounter in the wheelchair management. ‘’ It is very important to have a mindful approach to disabled people, and especially to pay attention to the safety of wheelchair users, and police officers as well ’’ Mr. Gajić said. A cadet of the Police Academy, Ms. Stefani Knežević said that this workshop meant a lot for her because she was informed about the problems that disabled people have. ’’We had an opportunity to manage the wheelchair in which a person was sitting, and to see how demanding it was to manage them as a user’’, Ms. Knežević said. She expressed the wish for this workshop to be held again, so that cadets could have the opportunity to learn other techniques for helping disabled people.
