On the occasion of the beginning of the new school year, the Republic of Srpska Ministry of Interior started the Republic of Srpska campaign ″Let’s Protect Children in Traffic″. The members of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of Interior were going to implement various planned activities with the aim to provide safe participation of school children in traffic. The head of Uniformed Police Administration, Mr. Dragan Jevđenić, announced that the presence of police officers would be intensified near school facilities and in urban zones, and that school patrols would be organized as well. Having in mind that this traditional action of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of Interior id being held every year, it has had a positive effect since none of the school children died in traffic last year on their way from home to school and back. Furthermore, he explained that the action would be implemented in two groups of activities. In the first group of activities, through lectures which will be implemented in primary schools, the police officers are going to introduce students with the basic rules of participation in traffic. In the second group of activities, the intensified control of vehicles in school zones will be organized during which police officers will use the automatic speed control device. The chief of the Unit for Traffic Safety, Mr. Goran Amidžić, said that the preventive control of buses transporting children was going to be performed in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Communication, Chamber of Commerce, Technical Inspection Association, and Auto Moto Association of the Republic of Srpska, and this action would last until 10September. He noted that 52 of 220 controlled buses were found to have technical defects.
