On the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day, the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior organized a round table whose topic was ‘’Police Integrity’’. The Head of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior Administration for Police Training, Mr. Mile Šikman, said that the Government of the Republic of Srpska created conditions for fighting against corruption by adopting the Anti-Corruption Strategy, the Action Plan, as well as Rules on Drafting Integrity Plans. ‘’Every day, when performing their duties, members of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior undertake measures and activities on detecting and proving that criminal offences of corruption are committed, but they also undertake measures on preventing corruption in their own lines’’, the Head Šikman said. He pointed out that the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior was one of the most active and engaged institutions regarding fighting corruption, and based on its own example, it showed how it should be done. The Head Šikman said that 50 internal procedures, based on suspicion of corruption, were in progress within the Ministry of the Interior last year, and three of which were proved. Four police officers were imposed the most serious disciplinary measure, that is, the termination of employment.  According to him, this year, 12 such procedures were in progress, whereby procedures for two police officers are still in progress and disciplinary measures are not imposed to them. ‘’The Ministry of the Interior also created the preventive approach by developing free SMS service, android application accessible to citizens, and free phone lines on which citizens may report corruption and follow their reports until the termination of procedure’’, the Head Šikman stressed. He added that the Ministry of the Interior was trying to prevent the appearance of corruption with introducing technical equipment, modern means of work, such as new radars and devices for measuring, detecting the alcohol and drug in body as well, since it makes police work more objective and transparent, that is, they have less possibilities to apply and abuse authorisations. The representatives of all organizational units of the Ministry of the Interior, from the field of integrity within the Ministry, attended the round table.
