At the Republic of Srpska National Assembly, the Deputy Police Director of the Republic of Srpska, Mr. Radomir Domuzin, opened the workshop for journalists whose subject was ‘’The Role of Media in Fighting Against Terrorism and Cyber Crime’’, which was attended by representatives of 20 media agencies from the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mr. Domuzin pointed out that the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior considered media as a serious partner in fighting against terrorism which was one of the most important challenges nowadays not only in the region, but worldwide as well. ‘’The threat from possible terrorist acts is growing in all countries. The existing infrastructure for countering terrorism is established and developed, but it is necessary to continue its improvement, as well as coordination of approaches to this problem’’, Mr. Domuzin said. According to him, the aim of this workshop is to provide training which will help media agencies to understand how they may be more important and significant partners in certain situations. In addition, he said that the approach in reporting on terrorism was sometimes minimized in some situations due to insufficient understanding of issues, and expressed hope that there would be progress in that area after the workshop was finished. Furthermore, he said that topics of cybercrime were attractive to journalists, and therefore, the workshop would focus on the role of media in this field. ‘’Police are trained to confront cybercrime which is an international problem. Therefore, we cooperate with police agencies from the region and world, and we are sure that we will successfully confront this problem in future’’, Mr. Domuzin said. He reminded that the transparency was one of the main principles of operations of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior, and the best proof was the fact that the Department for the Public Relations published 1,583 announcements last year. ‘’We held 313 press conferences and answered on 886 written requests of media agencies. This implies that we recognize their importance and role in today’s society’’, Mr. Domuzin said.
