Police officers of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of Interior will carry out the operation ”Increased traffic control with focus on speed control and inspection of driving under the influence of alcohol” during August, covering major part of the RS territory. Citizens, drivers of motor vehicles are invited to pay maximum attention in traffic, with particular emphasis on obeying the driving speed regulations, and not to consume alcohol when driving. The key recommendations to drivers who are getting ready for summer holidays and long journeys are to control technical validity of their vehicles, not to consume alcohol before the journey and while driving, and to avoid driving if they are tired or ill. Our advice is to avoid long and continuous driving without any breaks, especially during the night. We would like to point out that inappropriate driving speed was the main cause of 22.8% of traffic accidents that took place over the first six months this year, i.e. 953 out of 4,183 traffic accidents that were recorded in this period. Also, 7,101 driver has been excluded from traffic due to driving under the influence of alcohol, out of the total number of 8,975 excluded drivers in the recording period. In the period from January to June 2017, there were 4,183 traffic accidents, which represents 223 or 5.1% less than in the comparative period in 2016. There were 45 casualties in traffic accidents, 275 individuals suffered heavy body injuries, whereas 1,042 individuals suffered light body injuries. The number of casualties has decreased by 33.8% (or by 23 casualties) when compared with the same period in 2016.   Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
