After an hours-long operation, members of the Police Administration Bijeljina, together with members of the Border Police of BiH, saved four migrants from Iran from certain death by drowning from the river Sava near the border crossing Rača. It is believed that the migrants came to our territory floating down the river Sava from the direction of the neighbouring Republic of Serbia and then spent two days stuck on an island in the swollen river. With the joint effort of the members of the PA Bijeljina and Border Police of BiH, who risked their lives in the operation, and by using boats, four migrants: V.M (1990), N.B. (1992), J.S. (1981) and F.H. (1985) - all four from Iran - were saved from certain death by drowning. They were provided with medical assistance immediately after the rescue operation and, escorted by the police officers of the PA Bijeljina, taken to the Bijeljina Health Centre for further medical procedure.Namely, on 31.03.2018 at 13:43 hrs, N.Dž. from Sarajevo contacted PA Bijeljina and reported that international organisation Doctors without Borders informed her that they were in contact with migrants from Iran who were floating on pieces of wood in the river Sava and that their lives were in danger. After the medical assistance, the migrants will be escorted by the police officers of the PA Bijeljina and handed over to the competence of the Border Police and Inspector for Foreigners.
