SESSION OF THE COORDINATION BODY FOR MONITORING MOVEMENT OF ILLEGAL MIGRANTS HELD IN BIJELJINA

  In absence of the RS Police Director Darko Ćulum, Head of Uniformed Police Administration of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior, Mr Dragan Jevđenić, presided the session of the Coordination body for monitoring movement of illegal migrants across the Republic of Srpska territory. The session was held on August 15, 2018 in the premises of Bijeljina City Administration. In accordance with the available data, it was evaluated that the highest frequency of migrants was on the territories of Bijeljina and Zvornik police administrations, and it was concluded it was necessary to increase the control on border lines and engage more police officers in order to control illegal movement of migrants. Head Jevđenić said that, at the moment, there were 80 police officers providing direct assistance to the Border Police in surveillance, and that is was agreed to increase their number on the City of Bijeljina territory in the upcoming period. He added that the Coordination body for monitoring movement of illegal migrants remained with the position stated in the Decision of the Republic of Srpska Government that there were no conditions nor capacities for the accommodation of illegal migrants on the RS territory, adding that the RS Police shall provide highest possible assistance and support to their colleagues from BiH Border Police. 2,244 illegal migrants have been registered on the Republic of Srpska territory, majority of them coming from the Republic of Serbia. Head Jevđenić pointed out that police officers of the RS MoI submitted 22 reports for criminal offences of smuggling against 25 persons to competent prosecutors’ offices since the beginning of 2018.
