From 24 to 28 September, the representatives of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior participated in the Expert Evaluation Mission in the field of prison system and abuse prevention, organized by the EU Commission in BIH. On this occasion, efficient administration of prison system and prevention of torture and abuse in prison environment were discussed with the focus on laws and policies in force, as well as the implementation of measures for prevention and fighting against torture and abuse in the Republic of Srpska. In this Mission, in addition to the representatives of the representatives of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior, there were representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry for Economic Relations and Regional Cooperation, correctional institutions from Banja Luka and Istočno Sarajevo, and the Institute for Forensic Psychiatry Sokolac. Expert evaluation mission represents one of the mechanisms through which the European Commission, after submitting the Request for EU membership, gathers additional information on the current situation in BIH in the selected fields and evaluates the compliance with the requests and practices of the European Union. Information and documents gathered through expert missions and talks with the competent institutions, public institutions and companies, syndicates, associations and other interested parties in BIH, will serve to the EC in the process of preparing the Opinion on the Request of BIH for EU Membership (Avis).
