Republic of Srpska Police Director, Mr. Darko Ćulum, participated today in Banja Luka in the round table on the topic ”Harmonization of regulations with the regulations in the countries of the region and EU acquis communautaire in the field of fire protection”, that gathered experts in this field from the Republic of Srpska, Serbia and Slovenia. Director Ćulum stated that the RS Ministry of the Interior has adopted series of bylaws defining fire protection, placing emphasis on adoption of the rulebook defining mandatory measures in underground garages, hospitality facilities and public buildings gathering a large number of people, and measures prescribing the manner of placing facades. He reminded the public of preventive activities that this Ministry has undertaken in the area of fire protection, when they inspected 220 hospitality facilities, identifying lacks in 150 of them. Additionally, Director Ćulum also stated that the Ministry is currently engaged in harmonization of the Draft Law on Fire Protection, and that this Law will be in compliance with the EU standards. During 2017 and in the first ten months of 2018, there were 1,450 fires on the territory of the Republic of Srpska, resulting in 28 casualties, ten persons who suffered light injuries, whereas the estimated material damage was 8.8 million BAM.
