LECTURE FOR POLICE OFFICERS BY THE MEMBERS OF THE REPUBLIC OF SRPSKA WPON ON ROMA RIGHTS

       Today, in Doboj, the members of the association Women Police Officers Network of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior (WPON) held a lecture for police officers, whose topic is ‘Policing in Roma community’. This event represents one of the segments of the campaign ‘Let’s stop beggary – repression of ethnic minorities, discrimination and gross violation of children’s rights’ within the project ‘Dialogue for the future’, realised by UNDP, UNESCO and UNICEF in the partnership with the Presidency of BIH. A member of WPON, Ms Sanja Sumonja, said that the aim of these lectures was for the police officers to be introduced with the manner of acting towards ethnic minorities, primarily Roma communities, as well as dealing with the prejudice surrounding ethnic minorities.             A representative of the association ‘Roma girl – Romani ćej’, Prnjavor, Ms Snježana Mirković pointed out the need for the police officers and the public to be introduced to the Roma culture, tradition, and history in order to reduce prejudice and discrimination of this population.             Additionally, today, on the territory of the City of Doboj, a dissemination of the promotional materials whose topic is ‘Let’s stop beggary – repression of ethnic minorities, discrimination and gross violation of children’s rights’ was organised.                The project ‘Dialogue for the future’ is financed by the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund.   Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
