The Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior is implementing preparatory activities for establishing the stationary radar system in the area of the city of Banja Luka, which should contribute to traffic safety in this area. As a part of this activity, stationary radar poles were installed at 12 locations in the area of Banja Luka. Some possibilities of stationary radars at these locations will include automatic recognition of vehicle registration plates (ANPR – Automatic Number Plate Recognition), registration of minor offences of speeding and driving through a red light, as well as traffic video surveillance at these locations. The stationary radar system in the area of Banja Luka is still not in function, and the public will be officially informed when it comes into operation. Please note that the stationary cameras are installed on black poles precisely with the aim of distinguishing them from street light poles and other infrastructure in order to make it visible to drivers. The role of the stationary radar system is both preventive and repressive.
