THE CONFERENCE ON MARKING THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF GIRLS AND WOMEN IN THE ICT SECTOR

    Today, in Banja Luka, the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, opened the conference marking the International Day of Girls and Women in the Information and Communication Sector, which was organised by the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in BiH, through the project ‘’Strengthening Cyber Security in Bosnia and Herzegovina’’, with the aim of promoting the growth in the number of employed women compared to men in the ICT sector, and simultaneously, the growth of number of  male and female ICT experts worldwide.  Minister Karan pointed out that even though the public perceived the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior through the police activities and police officers, this was also an efficient way to highlight the importance of Administration for Information and Communication Technologies, which consists of outstanding ICT male and female experts and which supports that the Republic of Srpska MoI, and thus, police keep up with the technological developments and world trends in this area. He stated that the Administration for Information and Communication Technologies of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior had a large number of experts, half of whom are women, with a tendency towards their more increased involvement. Minister Karan said:’’The participation of women and girls in our ICT sector is particularly important, and I kindly compliment the multi-year efforts of the management to include as many women as possible in that sector. Both Head and Deputy of this Administration are women". He stated that the goal of this conference was to show the importance and scope of the IT space to the public, as well as to promote the education of girls in this field in general, especially in the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior. ’’On the other hand, we have the emergence of a large number of high-tech criminal offences, especially criminal offences that are gender-related. In this regard, I think that women will be more aware and sensible in solving criminal offences committed in cyberspace rather than men," Minister Karan said. Minister Karan stated that the Administration for Information and Communication Technologies of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior, has more than 60 different IT projects networked and unified into a single system, which is fully capable of performing operational police tasks, as well as civil tasks.
