The Republic of Srpska

Today, the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, attended the ceremonies in Orašac and Sremska Mitrovica, organised on the occasion of Sretenje, the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia. The national ceremony of marking Sretenje – the Republic of Serbia Statehood Day, was held in Orašac, the place where the First Serbian Uprising started on 15 February 1804, whereas the great gathering was held in Sremska Mitrovica, titled ‘We meet in Sremska Mitrovica’, where the Declaration on Vojvodina was adopted. Sretenje as the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia is marked to remember the two important events in Serbian history, which took place on this date – the First Serbia Uprising, in 1804, and the adoption of the first Constitution of Serbia in its modern history in 1835, in Kragujevac.
