The police officers of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior are going to continue performing the intensified activities of countering, prevention and detection of criminal offences of ‘People smuggling’, and increase their presence and activities in the field, especially on locations where illegal migrants commonly move or gather. The implementation of all legal measures and activities focused on the protection of all citizens and their property would continue in future, including those of maintaining the favourable security situation, while taking into account the principles of legality and humanitarianism. These are some of the conclusions of today’s Session of the Coordination body for monitoring the movement of illegal migrants across the territory of the Republic of Srpska.

At the meeting, the members of the Coordination Body expressed their full support to the Declaration on rejecting the initiative of the United Kingdom Government and certain European countries on establishing centres for migrants on the territory of BIH and every type of violent settlement of migrants on the territory of the Republic of Srpska, adopted by the Republic of Srpska National Assembly. Therefore, each institution is to undertake activities in their domain in order to implement the aforementioned Declaration.

The situation related to illegal migrations was analysed and it was concluded that the Coordination body for monitoring the movement of illegal migrants across the Republic of Srpska and all institutions included in the process would continue the realisation of the conclusions adopted by the Republic of Srpska Government.

Also, an important proposal was made at the meeting – at their annual sessions, security forums of citizens in local communities should analyse the situation related to illegal migrations on their territory and propose measures and activities to prevent illegal migrations.

The Session was attended by the representatives of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Ministry of Administration and Local Self-Government, Ministry of Finance, Republic Institute for Refugees and Displaced Persons, Republic Administration for Civil Protection and the Red Cross of the Republic of Srpska.
