The security situation in the Republic of Srpska is good, which is also visible in the statistics showing a 7.8 percent decrease in the crime rate and no disturbing incidents – this was the conclusion of today’s extended staff meeting of the Minister of the Interior, which analyzed the security situation in the Republic of Srpska.

“We had 95 operations, and 14 of them were regional and conducted in cooperation with other agencies. Our police received recognitions from Interpol and Europol,” said the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Željko Budimir.

He added that certain actions were carried out in cooperation with local communities, including the installation of surveillance cameras in public areas, with video monitoring established in 41 local communities, while negotiations with others are ongoing.

With regard to migrants, Minister Budimir stated that 403 migrants who wanted to enter or pass across the territory of the Republic of Srpska were registered this year.

He expressed concern about the high number of traffic accidents, with 96 deaths on the road this year, and said that the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior will act preventively and repressively. “This is a matter of traffic control, culture, and road conditions. We will have to implement a number of measures. The police have done everything within their power. We found that a large number of drivers involved in accidents were under the influence of alcohol and drugs,” he said.

He also noted that 61 cases of peer violence were registered in schools in the Republic of Srpska, and that the introduction of school police officers has yielded positive results, with special attention paid to children of school age. He emphasized that the number of domestic violence cases has decreased, and that new tools such as e-services have been introduced to reduce waiting times for citizens at service counters.

In the concluding part of the staff meeting, the Republic of Srpska President, Milorad Dodik, addressed the members. He said that citizens have the highest rate of trust in the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior, and thanked its members for all their work.

“We must further equip the police, to ensure their safety. I commend all the officers for their work,” said President Dodik.

He also reminded everyone that during past police reforms, it was not allowed for the Republic of Srpska to lose its police force, stressing that everything possible has been done to modernize their equipment, rejuvenate the personnel, and improve their material conditions.
