Today, in Bijeljina, the ceremonial lineup of the veterans of the Special Police Brigade marked the Day of the Special Police Brigade of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior.

After 30 years, the veterans submitted their report to the general Goran Sarić, who used to be the head of this Brigade. The Special Police Brigade of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior, established in 1992, had about 1,500 members during the war - 144 of them gave their lives for the Republic of Srpska, and about 400 of them suffered light and serious bodily injuries.

‘The nine detachments of the Special Police Brigade of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior were the nine pillars of defense of the Republic of Srpska’, said the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Željko Budimir.

He noted that the Special Police Brigade had had a lot of victims due to being on the front line of battlefields and that the members performed tasks together with the special units of the Army of the Republic of Srpska.

‘It is for this reason that is important to honour those people today, but also to send the message that the Republic of Srpska remains in the middle where we have to fight to realise what they were dreaming of’, Minister Budimir said.

It is only when the Republic of Srpska is completely free from the western occupation that we and our children will have a prosperous future’, Minister Budimir said.

For their war merits, the Brigade was decorated on several occasions with the order of Petar Mrkonjić, Nemanjići, Njegoš Prvi, Frist Class, and the Order of Merit for the People, and certain number of the members was decorated with the order of Miloš Obilić, Milan Tepić, and other significant recognitions.

The event was attended with the officials of the Republic of Srpska, Serbian Orthodox Church, families of the fallen fighters and numerous citizens.
