“There is no punishment that can bring Radenko Bašić back to life, nor provide adequate satisfaction for his brutal murder and the loss of a great man, a professional, a police officer, and a guardian of justice and the rule of law in every sense of the word. Nevertheless, it is crucial that both the perpetrators and those who ordered his murder receive the maximum sanction they deserve, which I hope will be imposed in the second-instance proceedings,” said today Mr Željko Budimir, the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior.

Budimir pointed out that police officers across the Republic of Srpska, from Novi Grad, Prijedor, Petrovo, Vlasenica, Višegrad, and Istočno Sarajevo Sarajevo to Trebinje, demonstrated solidarity today as they were waiting for the verdict against the persons who killed their colleague.

“I am proud of all members of the Ministry of the Interior and their gesture. None of us has forgotten that March morning when Radenko Bašić was murdered, and I believe that event left no citizen indifferent. That is why the sentence imposed on the perpetrators must be adequate, because an attack on the police is an attack on the state,” Minister Budimir said.
