The Republic of Srpska

Today, the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Željko Budimir, attended the ceremonies in Orašac and Kragujevac on the occasion of marking Sretenje – the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska.

The ceremony started in Orašac with the memorial service at the monument honouring the Great Vožd Karađorđe, where the First Serbian Uprising started on Sretenje, 222 years ago; it ended with Sretenje Ceremonial Academy at the Old Assembly in Kragujevac, where the Sretenje Constitution was adopted in 1835.

Under the slogan ‘Unity and pride’, Sretenje is marked both in Serbia and the Republic of Srpska, in accordance with the Declaration on the protection of national and political rights and joint future of Serbian people, adopted at the All-Serbian Assembly, in Belgrade, in June 2024.

The Republic of Srpska and Serbia started the joint celebration of Sretenje two days ago, first in Banjaluka, and then continued in Višegrad.
