Today, at the lecture hall of the Administration for Police Education at the Training Centre in Zalužani, on the occasion of marking the 11 years from the terrorist attack on Zvornik Police Station, the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Željko Budimir, held a lecture for the students of the High School of Internal Affairs and the cadets of the Police Academy. On that occasion, he pointed out that, when it came to terrorism prevention, the most important thing was to understand it as a phenomenon and the quality of the intelligence fieldwork.

Minister Budimir warned that BIH was a high risk country when it came to terrorism threats, since more than 100 people who had been in the ‘Islamic State’ were coming back.

‘This means that we are about to encounter people who have certain experience in fights and tactical skills that may be used in future for something similar’, Minister Budimir said.

He expressed his hope that it would not happen and that cooperation with all police agencies in BIH was on a high level.

In addition, he pointed out that terrorism in the 21st century brought new challenges and had new organization.

‘Just like the nature of war changes with the use of social network and the Internet as specific forms of communication and data exchange, including the artificial intelligence, the nature of terrorism and terrorist attacks also changes’, Minister Budimir said.

The Republic of Srpska police officer, Dragan Đurić, was murdered on 27 April 2015 in a terrorist attack of an Islamist on a police station in Zvornik. In this terrorist attack, police officers Željko Gajić and Stevo Milovanović were wounded.

The lecture was also attended by the Republic of Srpska Police Director, Mr Siniša Kostrešević.
