Today, the Defense Day of the City of Prijedor was commemorated with a parade, memorial service and a special program on the occasion of 84 years since the liberation of the city in World War II and 34 years since the defense of Prijedor in the last Homeland Defense War.

The commemoration program began with the laying of wreaths in front of the memorial plaque at the Prijedor Police Administration.

The Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Željko Budimir, and the officials of the Prijedor Police Administration attended the commemoration.

“This is one of the dates we have to remember because the history in Bosnia and Herzegovina is constantly being rewritten. The war in this region began with an attack on the city center, in which the center was almost occupied by the so called army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and only after that, the combat operations began in the area of ​​the city of Prijedor. This is important because the history is always being falsified. However, that can’t be done because we will continue to remember the families of the dead”, said Minister Budimir.

The commemoration of the Defense Day of the city of Prijedor is an opportunity to once again pay respect and lasting gratitude to all the soldiers who participated in the defense of the city, as well as to preserve the memory of their sacrifice and contribution during the most difficult moments for Prijedor and its citizens.
