The Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Srpska, Mr Željko Budimir, attended today in Zvornik the marking of the 34th anniversary of the establishment of the Central Detachment of the Special Police Brigade.

“The Special Police Brigade and its units were the key force in the armed struggle for the defense of the Republic of Srpska,” said Minister Budimir, noting that the laying of wreaths at the memorial plaque for 12 fallen members of the Special Police Unit was part of the marking of the Police Day of the Republic of Srpska.

“It is an honor for me to be here in Zvornik, and on the occasion of April 4th - Police Day, we will lay wreaths and say prayers for our fallen comrades from the Homeland Defence War, who came from the Central Police Unit, which was the core from which the Special Police Brigade was established,” Minister Budimir emphasized.

He added that the veterans of the Central Detachment of the Special Police Brigade had fought honorably in the Homeland Defence War, and that it was the pledge of all generations to remember the sacred warriors who fell for their homeland.

The Minister stressed that the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Srpska has established a long-term partnership with the commanders of the units and the Special Police Brigade, as their experience was of great value.

Wreaths at the memorial were also laid by the wartime commander of the Central Detachment of the Special Police Brigade, Mr Goran Abazović, the Mayor of Zvornik, Mr Bojan Ivanović, family members of fallen police officers, as well as representatives of veterans’ organizations and associations.
