The Republic of Srpska

Today, in Pale, wreaths were laid at the Central Memorial to those who fought and lost their lives in the Homeland-Defense war, as a remembrance of 30 members of the First Detachment of the Special Police Brigade ‘Jahorina’ of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior.

The wreaths were laid by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Government, Mr Savo Minić; Minister of the Interior, Mr Željko Budimir; Ministry of Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education, Mr Draga Mastilović; the representatives of the Association of the veterans of the First Detachment, and many other people.

Previously, at the Church of St Gabriel the Archangel, memorial service was held for the fallen members of this Unit on the occasion of marking its patron saint’s day. 

This detachment was established in 1992 and it had between 250 and 300 members - 30 of them gave their lives for establishing the Republic of Srpska. 

‘Together with the Army of the Republic of Srpska, special brigades were on the front lines defending Serbs, especially in the Sarajevo-Romanija region, where the Jahorina Detachment performed special tasks’, said the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Željko Budimir.   

He pointed out that, regarding this Detachment, it is important to note that it also provided security for very important persons of the then Republic of Srpska leadership – the President and the Republic of Srpska Government.
