After the shooting incident that occurred on 3 August on the territory of Istočno Sarajevo, the police officers of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior implemented several operational and investigation measures which resulted in the identification of large number of persons that may be related to the commission of this criminal offence. After that, one person was identified and arrested in the Republic of Serbia, a B.D. from Bijeljina – this was confirmed by the Republic of Srpska Police Director, Siniša Kostrešević. 

Director said that this person was related to attempted murder of a D.D. in Istočno Sarajevo, and arrested based on international arrest warrant. He added that the person was in extradition detention in that moment.

The Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Željko Budimir, pointed out that, 20 days before, they had promised that they would work intensely on the investigation related to the criminal offences committed in the beginning of August on the territory of Istočno Sarajevo. He explained that he was pleased with the activities implemented so far, since the first step had been made. 

‘The police will continue this investigation, but also the investigation focused on Đorđe Ždrale, for whom there is information that he is hiding on the territory of the Federation of BIH. As a result, the competent police agencies received the warrants for further activities. Crime has no religion, ethnicity or border, and therefore, it is important for us to cooperate with all police agencies in BIH and the region, as well as their judiciary institutions’, Minister Budimir said. 

He stressed that the police work would continue with special focus on the territory of Istočno Sarajevo Police Administration, and asked all politicians not to politicize the aforementioned incidents.

‘This is the matter of security for all citizens and fight against organized criminal groups whose network of accomplices is very wide and strong. It is for this reason that it is necessary to act in accordance with the law and use all institutional resources’, Minister Budimir concluded.
