Issuance of Passport
When applying for the issuance of a passport (which is obtained and filled out at the location), the following must be attached:
  1. Identity card or another public document, from which identity, residence, and citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina can be determined,
  2. Expired passport (unless it has been stolen or lost),
  3. Proof of payment for the passport in the amount of 50.00 KM (payment slip), or payment of the passport fee (50.00 KM) and a fee of 200.00 KM (if it is an urgent passport issued at the request of the party within 72 hours),
  4. Proof of paid administrative fee of 5.00 KM.

When submitting a request for the issuance of a passport, biometric data (photo, fingerprints, and signature) will be taken from the applicant. The application for the issuance of a passport is an electronic form and is filled out at the counter of the competent authority for issuing passports.

Issuance of Passport for a Minor
Both parents must be present for the issuance of the passport.
Along with the request for the issuance of a passport for a minor (which is obtained and filled out at the location), the following must be attached:
  1. Birth certificate,
Passport for minors who have not reached the age of 7 is issued with a validity period of 3 years
- the cost of the passport is 30.00 KM and the administrative fee is 5.00 KM Passport for minors between the ages of 7 and 18 is issued with a validity period of 5 years
- the cost of the passport is 40.00 KM and the administrative fee is 5.00 KM When submitting a request for the issuance of a passport for a minor, biometric data (photo, fingerprints, and signature) will be taken, except for minors under the age of 12, for whom fingerprints and signatures are not taken. For minors, or legally incapacitated individuals, the request for the issuance of a passport is submitted by one parent with the consent of the other parent, or another legal representative. Exceptionally from the above, the passport will be issued:
1. if one of the parents is listed as a missing person,
2. if one of the parents has an unknown residence or stay,
3. if one of the parents is unavailable to the competent authority for issuing passports,
4. if one of the parents has been granted custody of the child by a court decision, unless the same court decision conditions the issuance of the passport and the child's travel abroad with the consent of both parents.
If the court decision granting custody conditions the issuance of a passport with the consent of both parents, the competent authority will request a written statement from the other parent, who has not been granted custody, regarding the consent for the issuance of the passport. If the residence or stay of the other parent is unknown, the competent authority will carry out checks through available records and resolve the request based on those checks. If the minor, for whom the request for a passport is submitted, was born out of wedlock, and the other parent refuses to give consent for the issuance of the passport, the competent authority will request a written opinion from the relevant social welfare service regarding the justification of issuing the passport without the other parent's consent, and the request will be resolved in accordance with that opinion.

Loss, Destruction or Theft of Passport
In the case of the loss, destruction, or theft of a passport on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is necessary to report the loss, destruction, or theft on the GPI-1 form to the competent police authority in the area where the passport was lost, destroyed, or stolen. Along with the form, it is necessary to submit the payment slip for declaring the passport invalid (the payment is made to the account of the "Official Gazette of the Republic of Srpska" at the post office or bank counter).

Loss, Destruction or Theft of Passport Abroad
  1. Loss, destruction, or theft of a passport abroad must be reported to the nearest Bosnian diplomatic or consular representation abroad (form GPI-2)
  2. Submit proof of the statement given to the competent police authority regarding the circumstances of the loss, destruction, or theft of the passport,
  3. Submit the payment slip declaring the passport invalid.
