Police Director and the chief of ICITAP awarded certificates to the trainees of the training for using CODIS software

At the ceremony held today, the Republic of Srpska Police Director, Mr. Gojko Vasić, and the chief of ICITAP for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Charles Bennett, awarded certificates to the trainees of the training for using CODIS software (Combined DNA Index System). On this occasion, the software was donated to director Vasić, and this donation was realized through ICITAP programme in BiH.
Director Vasić emphasized the importance of this software for improving the work of the Forensic Centre and the Forensics Unit in uncovering the perpetrators of criminal offenses.
Six members of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior participated in the training for using CODIS software from 22nd to 26th June, and this software, according to director Vasić, is going to guarantee that personal information entered in the database is completely protected.
Chief of ICITAP in Bosnia and Herzegovina said that this was another step in cooperation on international level and pointed out that organized crime, trafficking, terrorism and smuggling were activities performed on the international level and that the Republic of Srpska Police could improve both their work and the security of citizens everywhere in the world.
CODIS software is the system for indexing combined DNA and it is a combined computer system for storing DNA profiles that can be searched with the aim of identifying suspects in crime investigations. This software is the property of FBI and cannot be found on free market, but is awarded by FBI to forensic laboratories they cooperate with.
