With the aim of improving conditions in the area of road traffic safety, the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior would like to remind the citizens that a legal obligation for vehicles to have winter equipment is effective from 15 November 2015.

Namely, regardless of weather conditions, from 15 November until 15 April, all motor vehicles are required to have appropriate winter equipment.

Therefore, winter equipment required by motor vehicles in winter conditions includes:

a) For passenger vehicles and other motor vehicles with maximum gross vehicle weight 3,500 kg and which do not have more than 8 seats:

1) Winter pneumatic tyres fitted on all four wheels. On the side of a winter tyre, there are markings commonly abbreviated to: M.S., M+S or M&S and a sign of a snowflake on a simplified drawing of mountain with 3 tops, with the minimum tread depth of 4 mm;

2) Summer tyres with the minimum tread depth of 4 mm and, as a part of equipment, appropriate snow chains, which are fitted to drive wheels in case of winter conditions.

b) For motor vehicles with maximum gross weight more than 3,500 kg and buses:

1) Winter pneumatic tyres fitted on drive wheels. On the side of the winter tyre there are markings commonly abbreviated to: M.S., M+S or M&S and a sign of a snowflake on simplified drawing of mountain with 3 tops, with the minimum tread depth of 4 mm, and the winter equipment for these vehicles also includes snow chains and tools (a shovel, a bag of sand weighing from 25 to 50 kg)

2) Summer tyres with the minimum tread depth of 4 mm and, as a part of equipment, chains which are fitted to drive wheels in case of winter conditions. The winter equipment for these vehicles also includes tools (a shovel, a bag of sand weighing from 25 to 50 kg)

In the following period, members of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior are going to increase the control of whether vehicles have met the conditions for participation in traffic, especially regarding winter equipment. Anyone who does not possess winter equipment is going to be fined in the amount of BAM 40, according to the Law on Traffic Security on the Roads of the Republic of Srpska.

We encourage drivers to comply with the law regulations regarding the possession and the usage of winter equipment, and to drive using a vehicle in a good technical condition, and thus protect themselves and other participants in traffic.
