MINISTER LUKAČ ATTENDING THE EU-WESTERN BALKANS MINISTERIAL FORUM ON JUSTICE AND HOME AFFAIRS

Today, Minister of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior, Mr. Dragan Lukač, attended the EU- Western Balkans Justice and Home Affairs Ministerial Forum, which was held in Sarajevo.

On this forum, delegates discussed the flows of refugees along the Western Balkans route, fight against terrorism, illegal trade and usage of firearms and explosives, and visa liberalization.

When talking about fight against terrorism, the participants of the forum agreed on integrative Action plan for all Western Balkans countries, as well as on the Initiative about fighting terrorism and finally concluded that only by joining forces can they accomplish all this. Regarding the topic of the refugee flows along the Western Balkans route, they agreed that these flows must be impeded.

European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos also stressed that there is agreement about fighting illicit arms trafficking, pointing out the Action plan for southeast Europe about prohibition of illicit arms trafficking  for the period from 2015 to 2019, and that this Action plan was accepted in the European Union and beyond.

‘’ We are very committed to working together in future; the two urgent questions about migration and terrorism are the ones which connect  our destinies and  only by joining forces can we solve all these issues. That is why it is so important to strengthen our friendship’’, Mr. Avramopoulos pointed out in the final part of his speech.

The Ministerial Forum is an extremely significant annual event, where the current situation and progress in the area of Home affairs and Justice are considered and where the guidelines of joint actions in fighting organized criminal, terrorism and corruption are defined.

This event was organized by Ministries of Security and Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the initiative of Luxembourg, the country which presides over the European Council in close cooperation with the European Commission.

Minister of Migration and Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg, Mr. Jean Asselborn and the Head of the European Union Delegation and European Union Special Representative, Mr. Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, also attended this forum as the representatives of European Union.
