From December 15, 2019 to January 15, 2020, the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior is organizing the campaign ’Firecrackers Are Not Toys’, with the aim of creating safe environment for celebrating the upcoming holidays in dignified and peaceful manner. Within this campaign, in cooperation with the representatives of local communities, school directors, school counsellors, pupil and parent councils of primary and secondary schools, inspection bodies, as well as other institutions and NGOs, a number of activities will be undertaken in order to counter criminal offences in this field since the holidays are the period when the increased use of pyrotechnics and illegal use of firearms can be expected. The use of pyrotechnics may cause life-threatening injuries as evidenced by the fact that three citizens, two of whom were minors, were injured by pyrotechnics during the last year. Therefore, police officers of the Republic of Srpska MoI are going to organize preventive lectures for students in primary and secondary schools across the Republic of Srpska in order to inform them about potential danger caused by the use of pyrotechnics, as well as about possible sanctions. At the same time, police officers, in cooperation with the competent municipal inspection services, are going to intensify their activities in order to prevent the unauthorized sale of pyrotechnics. Shop owners who are legally authorized to sell pyrotechnics are going to be warned that such trade has to be in line with the valid regulations.
