‘Any threat to the security and peace in the Republic of Srpska is a threat to the security and peace in the Republic of Serbia. Any calamity that happens in Serbia is equal calamity for the citizens of the Republic of Srpska. This is why we have the obligation to and improve our cooperation. This is why we are obliged to make everyday life of the citizens of both Serbia and Srpska safer’, Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia, Mr Aleksandar Vulin said today after the meeting with the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Srpska, Mr Dragan Lukač, in Banja Luka.

Minister Lukač pointed out that cooperation in the field of organised crime was very important since it was essential to prevent the criminals in arrest warrant evasions and breaking the law, and that he believed that joint fight against terrorism, important for both countries, would continue through information exchange.

‘The cooperation between special anti-terrorist units and gendarmerie units will be continued through joint exercises and equipment exchange. We can count on the support of the Republic of Serbia Ministry of the Interior also when it comes to the Republic of Srpska staff training, e.g. polygraph operator, trained by the experts of the Republic of Serbia Ministry of the Interior. Furthermore, there is cooperation between mounted police units, since certain number of our staff went through trainings together with the Mounted Police Unit of the Republic of Serbia Ministry of the Interior’, Minister Lukač said. He reminded that the Helicopter Unit of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior was also formed, and that the first helicopter ‘Amsad’ from Russia should arrive soon.

Additionally, Minister Lukač announced signing a contract between these two Ministries regarding cooperation and training pilots and technicians of the Republic of Srpska and the Republic of Serbia, after which they would obtain the licenses in order to perform their tasks properly and completely.

Minister Vulin said that:’…all the capacities of the Republic of Serbia were at disposal to the Republic of Srpska’.

‘Today, we agreed to organise a joint exercise of our special units next year already, on the territory of the Republic of Srpska or the Republic of Serbia; to continue joint education and training, as well as intense intelligence exchange regarding organised criminal groups and individuals threatening the security of the citizens of both Serbia and Srpska’, Minister Vulin said.

He added that illegal migrations, which bring numerous risks, equally affect both the citizens of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpka, and that this issue should be solved with joint forces, as well as the issue of terrorism.
