On the occasion of April 4 – the Republic of Srpska Police Day, a memorial service was served in Banja Luka and wreaths were laid on the Central Memorial for the deceased members of Republic of Srpska Interior Ministry.
Wreaths were laid on the Central Memorial for the deceased members of the Republic of Srpska Interior Ministry by the Minister Dragan Lukač, Police Director Siniša Kostrešević, Serb member and Chairman of the BiH Presidency Milorad Dodik and the Republic of Srpska President Željka Cvijanović.
Minister Lukač stated that due to the corona virus pandemic, Republic of Srpska Police Day has been modestly celebrated, but he expressed his hope that in the coming years the Republic of Srpska Interior Ministry will continue to mark the Police Day in a manner seen in previous years.
"It is important that today we remember all our deceased members, our heroes who gave their lives for the Republic of Srpska. 782 members of the Interior Ministry have laid down their lives for Republic of Srpska, and for that we are eternally grateful to them," Minister Lukač said.
The Republic of Srpska President Željka Cvijanović congratulated Republic of Srpska Police Day to all members of the Interior Ministry.
"We pay tribute to the members of the Interior Ministry who laid down their lives and fought side by side with the Republic of Srpska Army, defended freedom and all the values we stand for. Our obligation in the coming period is to further develop our Ministry of Interior. I'm proud of what the has been done so far. At the time of the Republic of Srpska defence, the war and after the war, the Republic of Srpska Police played a key role and today we can say for a reason that it is one of the main pillars and backbones of Republic of Srpska. What pleases me is that our police participates in operations of an international character where they have shown that they can go side by side with the police and the uniformed officers and services of the most developed countries in the world," President Cvijanović said.
Serb member and Chairman of the BiH Presidency Milorad Dodik noted that without a strong institution such as the Republic of Srpska Police, Republic of Srpska could not have been created and its freedom preserved.
“A strong segment of Republic of Srpska's security is the evolving police on which the population relies on. Everyone who died in police uniform during the war believed in Republic of Srpska and we need to believe in it even more today. The police is one of the important factors of this belief and its future," the Chairman of the BiH Presidency concluded.
