RECEPTION ON THE OCCASION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF UN PEACEKEEPERS

| Banja Luka | Thursday, 27/05/2021

On the occasion of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior Dragan Lukač organized a reception today in Banja Luka for police officers of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior who have participated in peacekeeping missions in the past.

Minister Lukač noted that the work of RS Ministry of the Interior members in UN peacekeeping missions is successful and notable, which is why they will continue to have all the support of the Ministry when departing for missions and during their stay.

Currently, police officers of the RS are participating in UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and Cyprus, and in recent years our representatives have participated in missions in Congo and Guinea-Bissau.

"We currently have some impasse over sending our representatives to the peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, but I expect that this problem will be resolved soon with the BiH Ministry of Security," Minister Lukač said.

Doboj Police Administration police officer Maja Gačić returned 15 days ago from a peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, where she was elected for a second time.

"The state of security in South Sudan is good, they no longer have war conflicts, but certainly the challenge for me as a woman, a police officer, was to participate in such a mission in the country where the awareness about the social engagement of women is low. Maja Gačić, who has participated in the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan for three years, said it was an immeasurable experience and a great honor and responsibility because she represented her country and the RS Ministry of the Interior.

Banja Luka Police Administration police officer Zoran Ćetkovic, who returned from a mission in Guinea-Bissau late last year and spent a career in several missions, a total of 9 years, says it is a special pride to wear a uniform marked with the RS police and the United Nations emblems.

“This experience in missions enriches us as professionals who stay there to help the local police. During my stay in Guinea-Bissau, significant progress has been made in the fight against crime by the local police, with the contribution of the UN Mission," Ćetkovic said.
