Promotion of the new stationary radar monitoring system

| Banja Luka | Wednesday, 01/09/2021

The Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior presented today in Banja Luka the new stationary radar monitoring system in the Banja Luka city area, aimed at further improving traffic safety in the area of Republika Srpska's largest city.

"We have launched nine stationary radars as part of the security system, i.e. improving traffic safety throughout Republic of Srpska. Out of 100 stationary cameras and ten interceptors, nine stationary cameras are now attached to this system here in Banja Luka out of a total of 25 that will be located in the area of the Banja Luka Police Administration. We continue to establish a system depending on the accompanying needs that are connected through this system, i.e. the support of local communities for granting approval for the establishment of stationary systems," Minister Lukač said.

After the presentation of the system, which was attended by Police Director Siniša Kostrešević, Minister Lukač pointed out that the system was symbolically put into operation on the day the school year begins in Republic of Srpska, and congratulated the beginning of the new school year for students and their parents.

Our goal is to keep our children safe, so I urge drivers to be much more vigilant on the streets, especially in the cities. A stationary radar system will certainly contribute to the safety of all traffic participants.  I urge drivers to obey regulations, not to make speeding offences, because most serious traffic accidents occur precisely because of unadjusted speed," Minister Lukač reminded.

He noted that the Republic of  Srpska Ministry of the Interior has been installing modern technical systems for several years to contribute to traffic safety.

"After the end of the war, more than 250 people died on our roads annually, and in the last five to six years fewer than 150 people died on our roads annually. We were able to establish technical systems, cameras and radar to reduce that number to 130, 118, last year to 101, but when hundreds of people die it's still a huge number. We are sure and know that technical systems contribute to greater traffic safety of other countries in Europe and the world," Minister Lukač concluded.

"There should be 100 radars and ten interceptors fully operational that will be attached to one operations centre that can monitor and control everything that happens on our roads at any time and thus intervene swiftly and assist in case of an accident registered in the eye of the camera. I think the Interior Ministry, with the help of the RS Government, has done a great thing in preserving the lives of citizens and all our drivers and our children on the streets," Minister Lukač concluded.

The Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior informs citizens that today a stationary radar system in the area of the city of Banja Luka has begun to be operational, which will record violations of improper speed and non-compliance with the prohibition of passing (red light) at intersections regulated by devices for giving traffic light signs.
