MINISTER LUKAČ: IT IS NECESSARY TO CONTINUOSLY WORK ON TRAFFIC SECURITY

”The Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior is continuously working on traffic security and installing modern radar systems across the Republic of Srpska has significantly decreased the number of persons killed in traffic accidents”, said the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Dragan Lukač, in his address at the International conference ”Traffic security in the local community”, which is held today in Banja Luka.
He stated that 4 500 persons were killed in traffic accidents in the Republic of Srpska since 1996, which represents an enormous loss for the Republic of Srpska.
”We are aware how many unfortunate families suffered a great loss, and that the material damage in these accidents is calculated in millions, and that is why our aim is to invest in traffic security to decrease the number of death on our roads, and to reduce the number of traffic accidents. The only way to do this is by including all agencies and institutions dealing with traffic security”, said Minister Lukač. He also stated that in the period after the war, the number of deaths on roads was 250 per year, and that this number has decreased to 101 in the past two years.
Minister Lukač reminded the public that the Republic of Srpska Government has invested significant funds in improving the security of drivers, and that they would continue working in accordance with available possibilities and funds, particularly in terms of legal powers of the police, in increasing the traffic security to a higher level.
The 11th Conference was organized by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Republic of Srpska Agency for Traffic Security, with the support of the Republic of Srpska Council for Traffic Security.
The representatives of the Republic of Srpska Agency for Traffic Security awarded Minister Lukač and the Ministry of the Interior with a Plaque for significant and public-spirited efforts in improving traffic security in the Republic of Srpska.
