| Banja Luka | Wednesday, 29/03/2023

The Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, announced today in his address at the round table on the topic ”Police and Education” the intention of the Ministry to establish the Secondary School of Internal Affairs, with the aim of improving the work quality of police officers and compensate the number of the necessary police officers.

The round table on the topic of police education was organised on the occasion of the 4th April, celebrated as the Republic of Srpska Police Day, and it was opened by the Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, and the Minister of Education and Culture, Ms Željka Stojičić, in the new premises of the Administration for Police Education within the Training Centre in Zalužani.

The main purpose of the round table was to exchange experience and ideas for improvement of the present police education.

Minister Karan stated that the aim was to increase the level of present trainings, and that education was the key element for the future and successful operation.

”We are facing with the retirement of a large number of police officers over the next few years, and the capacities of the Police Academy are not sufficient to educate the necessary number of police officers and provide the necessary quality. That is the key reason we decided to establish the Secondary School of Internal Affairs, along with the Police Academy”, said Minister Karan.

As he said, the RS MoI gives great importance to investments in police facilities in the Republic of Srpska, and in material and technical equipping of all RS MoI units, especially the special ones.

The Minister of Education and Culture, Ms Željka Stojičić, said that the Secondary School of Internal Affairs was established for the needs of the Ministry of the Interior, and that it would be under the jurisdiction of that Ministry.

The school is intended to provide education in the duration of four years, similar to other schools of this type in the region. We are confident that the school would contribute to better organization and training of police officers, resulting in better protection of the citizens in Srpska, said Minister Stojičić.

She mentioned that all the necessary activities with the aim of bringing the decision on establishment of the school were completed, and that the school would be registered in the educational system of the Republic of Srpska.

The opening of the round table was also attended by the Police Director, Mr Siniša Kostrešević, and the Dean of the Faculty for Security Studies, Mr Predrag Ćeranić, and numerous experts and professors from the sector of security.

After the round table, the ministers and the participants had the opportunity to see a demonstration exercise of the Police Academy cadets, and to visit new premises, rooms, cabinets and the classrooms of the Administration for Police Education.
