CENTRAL DETACHMENT OF THE SPECIAL POLICE BRIGADE MARKED ITS 31ST ESTABLISHMENT ANNIVERSARY

Today, in Zvornik, the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, the commander of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit, Mr Goran Balaban, and the head of Zvornik PA, Mr Aleksandar Vasiljević, laid wreaths at the memorial plaque commemorating the fallen members of the Central Detachment of the Special Police Brigade
Minister Karan said that, in 1992, after BIH fell apart, the Republic of Srpska Police was the first organization which protected Serbs together with the Republic of Srpska Army – in accordance with its self-determination, it was also under obligation to protect Serbs from physical and spiritual destruction. He added that the sacrifice of the fallen members of the Detachment represented both an obligation and incentive to, based on the tradition of their strength, continue building the contemporary police of the Republic of Srpska. Minister also pointed out that it was another occasion to commemorate all 782 fallen members of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior who laid down their lives and permanently embedded them into the foundations of the Republic of Srpska.
Furthermore, Minister Karan said that it was on the foundations of the Special Police Brigade that Special Anti-Terrorist Unit was created and they cherished their tradition – nowadays SAU is a modern and well-equipped unit able to solve the most complex security tasks in peace. He added that after the war, i.e. since 1995, 30 members of the Ministry of the Interior lost their lives, whereas about 500 of them suffered minor or serious injuries while performing their tasks.
‘One of the important features of all members of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior is the feeling that, above all, they protect the Republic of Srpska and its constitutional order, and also the lives of its citizens and their property’, Minister Karan said.
The President of the Association of the members of the Central Detachment of the Special Police Brigade of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior, Mr Željko Janković, said that the Central Detachment of the Special Police Brigade was formed on 4 April 1992, when they released the School of the Ministry of the Interior of BIH in Sarajevo, and it is from there that they continued to defend Serbian part of Sarajevo, and then the Republic of Srpska.
The memorial service was performed by the local clergy, and after that, the wreaths were also laid by the families of the fallen police officers, the representatives of the Central Detachment of the Special Police Brigade, the City of Zvornik, Zvornik Police Administration, and the representatives of organizations and associations which arose from Defensive and patriotic war.
