| Banja Luka | Thursday, 31/08/2023

The Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, and the Republic of Srpska Minister of Education and Culture, Ms Željka Stojičić, greeted today the police officers who are attending the specialist training titled ‘School-based Police Officer’ implemented by the Administration for Police Education of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior.

In his address to the trainees of the specialist training, Minister Karan said that the safety of students, especially in traffic, was the responsibility of parents, citizens, educational workers and school-based police officers. He added that therefore, the Ministry of the Interior had become a part of the educational system of the Republic of Srpska.

‘I am sure there will be challenges and concrete situations for which we will find the best solutions. The most important thing is that everyone acts in accordance with their competence and that we act when any form of deviant behaviour is recognized’, Minister Karan said to the journalists in Zalužani, near Banja Luka, after addressing the trainees.

Minister Karan said that about 150 police officers completed the training to become a school-based police officer with the aim of recognizing peer violence and juvenile delinquency.

Minister of Education and Culture, Ms Željka Stojičić, thanked the Ministry of the Interior for being actively included in the realization of the programme for strengthening the security and countering violence in schools, as well as other ministries that are a part of the team. ‘It becomes realistic to expect that while working together, the violence in schools will be reduced to minimum’, Ms Stojičić said.

She extended her best wishes for a successful school year to primary and secondary school students, and everyone who participate in the teaching process, including the school-based police officers. She added that about 70% of teachers would have a higher salary the following year, which is a good motivation for work.

When discussing the security online, the ministers pointed out that the students were continuously educated on cybercrime and possible contents that could have detrimental influence, and that the Ministry of the Interior regularly strengthened their capacities with the aim of efficiently preventing all types of criminal offences in that field.

After the end of the specialist training, a school-based police officer will be permanently present in major school centres, whereas in other schools they would be occasionally present, and visit them in accordance with the competent police stations.
