’’All of us who have inherited this freedom called the Republic of Srpska have a duty to protect it. This detachment was formed on October 1, 1992, and our Special Brigade had nine detachments. Today we are here to pay our respects to those who gave their lives for the foundations of the Republic of  Srpska ’’ Minister Karan said.
Minister Karan stressed that the Special Brigade had 1,500 members during the Defence-Patriotic War, of which 144 gave their lives for the Republic of Srpska.
The lives of 782 members of the Ministry of the Interior were built into the foundations of the Republic of Srpska, and after the Dayton Peace Agreement, 31 of our police officers lost their lives in the line of duty, protecting the Republic of Srpska - Minister Karan emphasised.
The War Commander of the 4th Detachment of the Special Police Brigade, Mr Ratomir Draganić, said that citizens should never forget contribution made by the fallen members of the Detachment who gave their lives for today’s generations.
General Ljubomir Borovčanin said that soon after the establishment of the Detachment, it was obvious that the importance of this Detachment went beyond territory on which it was formed. It was the image of Republic of Srpska at that time. Members from all over Srpska, i.e. the former Bosnia and Herzegovina, were its members. If one looks at the places where these soldiers died, one may find that these places are borders of today’s Republic of  Srpska -  Borovčanin concluded.
