The security situation on the territory of the Republic of Srpska was assessed as satisfactory at the Staff meeting organised by the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, and the Republic of Srpska Police Director, Mr Siniša Kostrešević, held today in the town of Foča, and also attended by the heads of operational administrations of the Ministry at its HQ and the head of Foča Police Administration.
The Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, said that the results realised within the first three months of this year, during which reduced number of criminal offences had been recorded, showed that the Ministry of the Interior remained the true keeper of peace and security of the Republic of Srpska.
‘It is important to point out that the Ministry of the Interior has been fulfilling their legal duty in these turbulent times, when the constitutional order of the Republic of Srpska is being under attack, and while we are suffering various global influences in different manners, including the repercussions on the Republic of Srpska’, Minister Karan said.
He pointed out that the police activities on the field have been increased in the previous year, and as a result, during the first three months of this year in the Republic of Srpska, the number of committed criminal offences of ‘Theft’ have been reduced, as well as the number of crimes against life and limb, robberies, domestic violence, abuse and exploitation of children.
‘The total rate of criminal offences has been reduced by almost 14%, criminal offences against property by more than 20%, whereas the criminal offences of sexual abuse and children exploitation have been reduced by 84%, which is the best indicator of police work and activism’, Minister Karan said.
He pointed out that great results have also been achieved in countering the abuse of narcotic drugs, but a lot more would have to done in order to increase traffic safety.
‘We have increased repressive measures, and yet, the majority of drivers is still under the influence of alcohol. This is something we all have to deal with, not just us, but also parents, driving schools and educational institutions’, Minister Karan said, and added: ‘The police in the Republic of Srpska guarantees protection of constitutional order and security for all citizens’.
He said that, after the terrorist attack in Moscow, the Ministry of the Interior had undertaken several measures and activities that were still in force, and added that the presence of the members of police who carry weapons in the street had been increased, and that special attention would be paid to the locations of mass public assembly.
‘We have undertaken several other measures and operationally monitor persons we have previously recorded and may connect them to the commission of terrorist activities or other forms of providing support when it comes to terrorism’, Minister Karan explained.
He continued that, one year after the tragic event in ‘Vladislav Ribnikar’ Primary School, in Belgrade, there were still strong measures and multidisciplinary engagement in force in schools.
‘We have controlled all shooting ranges as well as the owners and carriers of weapons’, Minister Karan pointed out.
Regarding the issue of migrants, Minister Karan says that, within the first three months, there were 400 migrants more than there were in the same period the previous year and that their mobility had become visible lately.
He pointed out that the Ministry of the Interior would increase the measures before Easter holidays and the assembly in Gradina, on 12 May, which, according to him, represented a security challenge.
