CITIZENS OF SYRIA DETECTED IN VIŠEGRAD

On 24 April 2024, at 05.55 AM, the police officers from Višegrad Police Station arrested a person whose initials are V.K, from the town of Visoko, based on suspicion that they transported persons who are citizens of Syria.
Acting in accordance with the Agreement on providing assistance and operational cooperation in border monitoring with the aim of providing an appropriate response to migration pressure, the police officers from Višegrad Police Station were implementing the measures and activities in their competence in Vojvode Stepe Street, Municipality of Višegrad, stopped a vehicle brand ‘Mercedes’, model ‘Vito’, in which they encountered seven foreign citizens.
On that occasion, the police officers confirmed that the persons were the citizens of Syria, and that one of them was a minor. The prosecutor on duty of the Prosecutor’s Office of BIH has been notified on the event, as well as the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs Sarajevo Field Office, was also informed on the event on the same day. The detected persons were handed over to the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs in Sarajevo.
Further activities on investigating the arrested person were continued on the premises of Višegrad Police Station, and upon completing the investigation, a report is going to be submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office of BIH against the V.K. on the committed criminal offence ‘People Smuggling’.
