CAMPAIGN OF THE REPUBLIC OF SRPSKA MINISTRY OF THE INTERIOR AND AMBER ALERT EUROPE: ‘CHECK – THINK – REPORT’

| Banja Luka | Monday, 20/05/2024

As a member of the international organisation ‘AMBER Alert Europe’, the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior is implementing the campaign titled ‘Check – Think – Report’ from 20 to 31 May. The aim of the campaign is to educate adults, primarily parents and guardians, on steps to take in case their child goes missing.
Within this campaign, the police officers of the Ministry are organising lectures for parents/guardians in primary schools, because it is important to inform them about what steps to take and point to the procedures that are relevant in a situation where a child goes missing.
When a child goes missing, the time that has passed from the moment when the person went missing is very significant. Therefore, when a child goes missing, it is extremely important for the report to be submitted as soon as possible and not wait for a certain period of time to pass.
In September 2018, the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior signed a memorandum of understanding with AMBER Alert Europe. As a result, it has taken several activities on establishing a functional mechanism of steps to be taken in case a child goes missing. Some of those activities were organising prevention campaigns for informing children and adults what to do in case a friend/child goes missing. Also, promotion videos were made in cooperation with ‘Amber Alert’, and then uploaded to the Youtube channel of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior.
Furthermore, the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior has approached the preparations for introducing the system for urgent notice in case a minor goes missing, and a task force was formed that would work on introducing this system on the territory of the Republic of Srpska together with other institutions and organisations in the Republic of Srpska.
The aim of the Ministry is to improve their work and make it more efficient in the aspect of searches for missing persons, especially searches for missing children. The aim is for the search for children to obtain a new dimension, thus creating a possibility for the public to be timely informed so they can contribute to finding the missing child.
Since 2019, all the missing minors have been found.
