ANOTHER FIREFIGHTING HELICOPTER IN TREBINJE DURING THE SUMMER

| Banja Luka | Tuesday, 18/06/2024

Today in Trebinje was presented the firefighting helicopter of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior, equipped with a helibucket and other necessary equipment, which will be located in this city during the summer.
Stationing the helicopter of the Serbian MoI in Trebinje represents the first implementation of the agreement form the recent All-Serbian Assembly in Belgrade, which the two ministers made with the representatives of the police administrations of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska.
Minister Karan thanked the presidents of Srpska and Serbia, Mr Milorad Dodik and Mr Aleksandar Vučić for the implementation of the agreed activities.
”I will only mention that during the last years, we had more than 3,500 fires in the Republic of Srpska, most of them were forest fires. There were 240 fires in Herzegovina. During those five years, 87 people lost their lives in those fires. We had one casualty in Herzegovina this year and a total of six fire casualties in Herzegovina. I would particularly point out forest fires and enormous material damage”, said Minister Karan.
Minister Dačić, who is also the Vice-President of the Serbian Government, stated that the helicopter and the crew would be situated in Trebinje until September, with the possibility of extension, if necessary.
He said that their aim was to provide assistance in preventing fires in this region, not only in the Republic of Srpska, but on the whole territory of BiH.
On the occasion, the two ministers held a meeting with the Mayor of Trebinje, Mr Marko Ćurić, at the Trebinje City Administration, and with entrepreneurs from the region, confirming once again the cooperation between the Serbian people.
"We have a large number of fires every summer, and this helicopter is something we needed for a long time, primarily so that our citizens feel safe, but also to prevent fires from happening, because, in addition to extinguishing, it will also be used for scouting and spotting potential fire hazards," said Mayor Ćurić.
The director of the Republic of Srpska Civil Protection Administration, Mr Boris Trninić, and the head of the Helicopter Unit of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit of the RS MoI, Mr Miroslav Malbašić, informed those present at the heliport about the benefits of the helicopter, saying that it is good that the helicopter is in Herzegovina, where a large number of fires are registered during the summer. They all agreed they hoped the helicopter would be used as least as possible.
