As a part of preventive activities in countering drug abuse in the Republic of Srpska, this year the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior marks 26 June, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, with a series of activities.
One of the objectives of this year's campaign, which is carried out in cooperation with the Commission for the Suppression of Drug Abuse in the Republic of Srpska, is to raise awareness of the harmful effects and consequences of consuming narcotics, and the importance of early intervention, as well as providing support and assistance to those using drugs.
In 2023, the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior detected 2,681 cases related to drugs (403 criminal offences and 2,278 minor offences of drug abuse), organized 54 operations, 12 of which were international ones, thus discovering and dismantling several organized criminal groups, as well as five laboratories for drug production.
The Ministry of the Interior will continue conducting preventive and repressive activities in the upcoming period, with the aim of countering drug abuse and smuggling, and raising citizens' awareness on the harmful effects of drug use and consumption, and the consequences it carries.
During the next school year, the Ministry will continue educational lectures in elementary and secondary schools, with the aim of introducing the students with the harmful consequences of drug consumption and illegal trafficking.
